The News-Review is the direct descendant of two of Riverhead Town's original community newspapers, The County Review (1868) and The Riverhead News (1905). A paid-circulation weekly, it is the official newspaper of Riverhead Town, the seat of Suffolk County government and the gateway to Long Island's well-known North and South forks. It's headquartered just across the town line in Mattituck, where since 1988 it has shared offices with its sister publication, The Suffolk Times. The News-Review has been honored on numerous occasions by the New York Press Association as the best community weekly newspaper in its circulation category (5,000+). It's the only newspaper devoted exclusively to Riverhead Town and its people. The News-Review is well known and widely respected for its political independence. In successive elections in the past decade alone, it endorsed Democratic, Republican and independent candidates for town supervisor. Such independence has earned the newspaper the enmity of some political partisans and the respect of its loyal readers and advertisers.
