The Suffolk Times is the community weekly newspaper that has served the North Fork of Long Island (NY) continuously since its founding in 1857. It is, or has been, the official newspaper of Southold Town, Shelter Island Town and the Incorporated Village of Greenport, where it was based until 1988. That year it relocated to Mattituck, where it shares offices with its sister publication, The News-Review of Riverhead. The Suffolk Times has been honored on numerous occasions as the best community weekly in its circulation category (10,000+) by the New York Press Association, and in 1991 it was named the best weekly in the United States (10,000+ circulation) by the National Newspaper Association. In recent years, the newspaper has received hundreds of additional awards for excellence from state and national press groups, and it is widely regarded for its strong editorial advocacy of environmental protection. The Suffolk Times is so intensely local that its publisher has said (perhaps only half jokingly), "We would cover an earthquake in East Hampton only if it broke Mrs. Sledjeski's dishes in Cutchogue." To appreciate just how much The Suffolk Times is relied upon as the source for news and information on the North Fork, this is all you really need to know: The newspaper has a paid circulation of more than 10,000 in a community that has fewer than 8,000 homes. The Suffolk Times phone number is 631-298-3200. Our mailing address:Times-Review Newspapers
